Happy Birthday Shaylor!!!

Shaylor turned 3 this past weekend and we had such a fun day with him.
We always make a pretty big deal out of birthdays. We let the person choose all their meals for the day and open up presents throughout the day. We had planned to have pancakes for breakfast, but the night before his birthday, we were at the grocery store and he saw cereal that had marshmallows in it and asked if he could have that for his birthday. So it was "Marshmallow Mateys" for breakfast (gag!) What the birthday boy wants, the birthday boy gets!

He got a new elephant shirt and a Diego hat that he wore all day!
He also got a foam sword that he thought was "cool!". Every time he swung it around, he would say, "huh-CHAW!"

After breakfast, I baked his cake. We were in a different part of the house and all of a sudden Shaylor says, "What dat smell?" Ian and I were talking and not paying attention and he kept persisting until finally he shouted, "I SMELL SUMFING. WHAT DAT SMELL?" It was the birthday cake filling the air with chocolatey goodness. He knew he smelled something good and wanted some of whatever it was! It took a while to explain to him that he had to wait until after dinner for his cake!

Ian and I went for a run with Shaylor and Maisy and let the girls stay home and work on their games for the party while Gracie had her morning nap.

For lunch, we went and picked up some pizzas and headed to the park. About 5 minutes after we got there, Shaylor had to go potty and it started to rain just a bit. So, that plan was short lived.
Here's a picture of him eating his pizza - he always eats it with the crust on top.
We finished lunch at home and Shaylor got to open his T-Ball set. He saw a commercial for "Batter Batter Baseball" at the beginning of the year and since then has asked us for one. He was so cute playing with it.

After afternoon naps, it was time to get ready for his party. We had family come by for a (rainy) Barbecue. Shaylor chose a Diego/jungle theme for his party decorations. Ashlyn did a "Diego Says" game (like Simon Says) and Noelle did an Animal Charades game. Shaylor had so much fun and got great presents. (Thanks everyone so much for spoiling him!)
Here's a picture of the cake Ian and I made for him.

He played with his toys until about 8:30 and then it was time for his final present - an elephant. He LOVES elephants and has seen this one in a store we go to often. Every time we are there, he picks it up and carries it around the store until it is time to go. Ya, there was no way we weren't going to get it for him!

He had a great birthday. Now I just need to make him understand that it's over and we're all out of presents!!

What an awesome cake! I used to make a big deal out of birthdays and then I got tired. I need to get back into it - Shaylors' looked so fun.
